This is turning into a travel blog, isn’t it? We have been traveling a bit. This past weekend took us to Florida, where Wayne played in the USSSA Military World Tournament. When I heard that the tournament would be played in Panama City, I knew we all had to go!
I didn’t take any softball pictures…the less said about that, the better, I’m afraid. It’s pretty bad when your team is top seed going in and doesn’t win a single game. But that’s what happens when 90% of your team would rather drink than win.
Yeah. A bunch of sailors, drinking. Imagine that.
The rest of us had a good time hanging out at the beach. Ben’s foster family gave us pictures of him at the beach, but in those he was all bundled up like it was winter. So we don’t know if he had been to the beach to swim before. He didn’t particularly like the waves, especially when a bigger one came up and he got salt water in his mouth! He liked playing in the sand, though. And he did splash in the water more the second day. Our favorite beach in Pensacola is on the sound side (the locals call it “Mommy’s beach), so there are no waves. Hopefully next summer – when we spend a lot of time there 🙂 – he will enjoy the beach much more.
We did have some rain, but not too much. On Saturday, our friends from Pensacola drove down to hang out. We were so busy catching up, we didn’t take pictures. Just imagine us swimming, eating pizza and talking.
Sunday morning we got up early, checked out of our beach house, and made the drive to Pensacola in time for church. It was a good two hour drive, and church started at 10:45, so you can imagine the sort of busy we had going on there! Did I mention it was pouring rain? Pouring.
After church we met about 25 other friends at a restaurant, including a guy I grew up with who is now stationed in Pensacola. Small world, huh? It was a fun and sort of crazy lunch, with so many people to visit with!
Next we had an appointment with a realtor to look at two houses. It’s a little early for us to really look, considering we have to sell our house here first, but we had found two houses that we really wanted to see in person.
If you’re curious…House #1 is still a contender; it actually looked better in person than in the pictures. House #2 looked much worse and needs too much work for us to consider it.
By then it was 4:00 and definitely time to hit the road! We found a place to change out of our church clothes and started towards Atlanta, where my sister was watching our dogs.
We got home about 2 a.m. I am definitely too old to do that very often! We had a really fun time in Florida, though, and are looking forward to moving there in a few months!
